Katherine Mueller - Nighthawks Girls Program Director

Email: [email protected]

Katherine was born and raised in San Diego and attended Poway Unified Schools.  From her early years as
a kindergartener on the “Lavender Lightning” recreational soccer team, to currently as a lacrosse coach,
Katherine has always had a love of playing a variety of sports.

Soccer was Katherine’s primary sport.  Katherine played on the Triple-A soccer team for the club team PQ
Premier, now known as SDCC. Playing soccer was the main focus for Katherine during the week and
weekends, often traveling to other cities within California and other states.  Katherine was always willing
to try new sports and as a freshman decided to also tryout for the Westview High School girls lacrosse
program.  She quickly realized that the decision to take the chance and tryout for lacrosse was one of her best moves in sports.  This began Katherine’s love of lacrosse.

Katherine made the JV team that year.  She had a coach who taught her how to play and who also fostered her confidence on the field. Katherine’s passion for playing lacrosse continued through the summer where she played for various summer club teams.

Katherine soon made the varsity team where she played low defense or on the midfield. As a senior, she was awarded the team’s MVP of defense and was selected for the San Diego All Star Team. This gave Katherine the opportunity to travel to Maryland and play against other teams from all over the country.

After high school, Katherine went on to attend the University of Arizona. After graduating, Katherine returned to San Diego to attend and then receive her teaching credential and Masters in Education at the University of San Diego. Since 2016, Katherine has helped coach the Nighthawks youth girls lacrosse team.  She has coached the JV Del Norte team for the last two years.

Katherine is an elementary school teacher at Willow Grove Elementary in the Poway Unified School District. Katherine has a passion for teaching and coaching lacrosse. She loves giving students confidence not only in the classroom but also outside of the classroom.

Ryan Blanchette - Coach

Phone: 858.282.6622

Email:  [email protected]

Coach Ryan grew up in Northern California and started playing lacrosse at Berkeley High School. His
team was very successful and he has fond memories of winning a State Championships against Poway
High School. Ryan played for MIT, a Division 3 school that is surprisingly competitive, given their limited
recruiting pool: reaching the D3 national tournament multiple times in the past. Ryan was a two-year
Captain and MVP for his team.

Ryan has completed the US Lacrosse Coaches certification (Level 1) curriculum and has coached all levels of Youth Lacrosse for 5 years. He has a great deal of experience coaching kids in Kindergarten through 8th grades, both at church and in multiple sports (football, basketball, soccer, and lacrosse). He fell in love with the game of lacrosse as soon as he picked up a stick and looks forward to passing that passion on to the guys on his team. His coaching principles align perfectly with our program:

1) Demonstrate Character

2) Have Fun

3) Give your best

the sport, one of whom went on to play Division 1 lacrosse in Maryland.

He has been coaching in the San Diego lacrosse community since 2007 and is a firm believer that lacrosse can be used to teach important life lessons to kids as we look to grow the sport in the Del Sur & 4S Ranch community.

lacrosse last season.

Lacrosse provides such a great framework to get young athletes exposed to a fun, fast paced, action
packed game and Coach Matt looks forward for the chance to help get the boys to learn and enjoy the
game!

Matt enjoys the fact that his team gets to tap into a few of the other benefits of the sport of lacrosse like
learning how to be good teammates, respect for one another, opponents, and the game.
